This intensive one-day summit will examine a variety of infrastructure
issues with respect to inbound international tourism, including
signage, air service and hospitality programs as well as current
practices in visa issuance, customs and immigration. The summit
will work to enhance relationships among tourism professionals and
federal officials responsible for facilitating foreign travel to
the United States. The summit will serve as a mechanism to construct
sound foreign traveler policy recommendations to the new Administration
and Congress. It will also offer ways for the Western States to
develop a stronger long-term relationship with our federal counterparts
on these important issues.
The Summit will operate in two parts. During the morning sessions,
top level executives from the Bureau of Consular Affairs, State
Department and the Immigration and Naturalization Service as well
as other individuals will brief the audience on issues including
technological developments, infrastructure needs, safety and security
issues and federal policies regarding international tourism.
After lunch, a series of reactor panels are planned. The Foreign
Ministers and/or Consuls General of Brazil, Taiwan and Poland will
make brief presentations addressing issues and problems their citizens
experience when traveling to the United States.
